New curator for Danish Crafts Collection

Designer Pil Bredahl will be in charge of putting together the next collection of new Danish craft and design for the Danish Crafts Collection, which has been marketed at international design and lifestyle fairs since 1999. In Pil Bredahl, the collection has a curator who has first-hand experience with both experimental and commercial design as well as a strong commitment to ethical and sustainable design.

Danish Crafts merges with the Danish Agency for Culture

As part of the recent reform of public funding for the arts, Danish Crafts merges with the Danish Agency for Culture. The merger is effective from January 1st, 2014. Overall, the funding for the area is increased, and as a new feature, a project funding committee for craft and design will be established under the Danish Arts Foundation. Funding for craft and design will be managed by the Danish Arts Foundation with the Danish Agency for Culture serving as secretariat. The merger involves that Danish Crafts will cease to exist as an independent institution with its own board. Danish Crafts’ core international activities, MINDCRAFT and Danish Crafts Collection, will continue in the new structure under the Danish Arts Foundation.

New collection from Danish Crafts

The new Danish Crafts Collection, which is the 17th in the series of collections from Danish Crafts, is launched at the design fair Maison & Objet in Paris on 6-10 September 2013, at stand B86 in Hall 8. Quality craftsmanship, attention to detail and in-depth knowledge of materials are among the core competences displayed by the Danish craftspeople and designers in Danish Crafts Collection CC17.

Nis Øllgaard’s shoehorn wins a Red Dot Award

Nis Øllgaard’s shoehorn was part of Danish Crafts Collection CC15, which was launched in autumn 2011. The product was soon spotted by Normann Copenhagen and they decided to put the shoehorn into production. Recently the shoehorn received a Red Dot Award.

Strokes in production

From Crafts Collection to Bolia

From January 2013, Danish furniture brand Bolia takes over sales of Rikke Hagen’s lamp series Orla, which was originally marketed as part of the Danish Crafts Collection. The original Orla lamp was included in Crafts Collection CC15, and the follow-up design, Big Orla, is part of the current Crafts Collection, CC16.

Granny Stool selected for the thematic exhibition Couplicité in Paris

In addition to being a part of Danish Crafts Collection CC15, which is launched on 9 September in Paris, Jonas Klein’s colourful stool, Granny, has managed to attract additional attention. Granny has been curated to be included in the thematic exhibition Couplicité, which occupies its own separate area at the lifestyle fair. The three-legged stool will also be on display in the show windows of the department store Galeries Lafayette until 1 October.
