The SliceThe Slice - Cushions for chairs, benches and garden furniture. The cushions are made of coloured wool, rolled up, felted and finally sliced. This technique creates a series of exciting patterns resembling annual rings on a tree stump. Each cushion is unique. |
Lene Frantzen
b. 1961, Danish Textile Designer
Frantzen graduated from Designskolen Kolding in 1984. Her products SLICE, SOFA SLICE and TABLE SLICE are produced using a special technique developed through 10 years’ worth of individual artistic work on felt. To Frantzen craft is a significant aspect of her design business – a question of the professional handling of materials with an eye to aesthetics and function, not to mention a significant humorous element. The colours must stir feelings and association in the viewer. This goal seems to have been most elegantly reached in her newest collection, which can be made to order in special colour schemes to suit clients’ wishes. Frantzen finds the inspiration for her beautiful work in the annual rings of a tree stump. She has developed a special technique where she rolls up dyed wool, fulls it and cuts it into slices to produce a series of exciting patterns reminiscent of tree rings. The SLICE has won her several awards including the bronze medal of the craftsmanship award Kunsthåndværkerprisen, 2004, and the Design Plus Award at the Ambiente 2005. She has also received a grant from the Danish Arts Foundation in 2005, and was nominated for the German Design Award 2006. Lene Frantzen Design is sold both in Denmark and internationally. | By same artist: |
