Bowls and dishesA series of porcelain bowls and dishes for domestic, everyday use – for everything from light snacks to after-dinner sweets. The models for this series were initially folded in paper and subsequently carried out in porcelain. The insides feature a white, shiny glaze, while the outside surfaces are matte. Some items feature motifs from old paper cuttings. Sizes vary from 12 to 32 cm. in diameter. |
Karin Blach Nielsen
b. 1967, Danish Ceramic Designer
Blach Nielsen graduated from Designskolen Kolding in 1988, and went on to graduate from the Royal College of Art, Department of Ceramics and Glass, in 2000. She works in both stoneware and porcelain, producing one-off pieces as well as creating porcelain series like dinner sets. Blach Nielsen takes her inspiration from her everyday surroundings and from engaging with her materials. Her work is functionally determined but still appears sculptural, almost Japanese in expression. In this light it becomes apparent that Blach Nielsen plays a special ‘compositional game’ using traditional techniques for folding and cutting paper when working with her ceramic pieces. | By same artist: |
