Children's dinnerware & Set of BowlsCHILDREN'S DINNERWARE made from cast porcelain. The set consists of an organi-cally shaped cup with no handle, geared for the motor skills of small children. The set also comprises oval plates whose shape reduces the distance from the child to the table. The set is hand-decorated with cheerful, humorous motifs like little ladybirds or green, orange and blue cars. Hybel’s SET OF BOWLS was part of her degree project from Danmarks Designskole in 1997. Here she also produced a set of dinnerware entitled “Middag for to” – Dinner for Two. She has since expanded the series to six bowls of various shapes and sizes, which can be combined in a number of different ways. The set is made from cast porcelain and fired at 1280oC. |
Dorte Hybel
b. 1963, Danish Ceramic Designer
Hybel graduated from Danmarks Designskole in 1997, specializing in one-off work. Hybel finds inspiration for her functional ceramics in everyday life, where one shape often leads to another. At the moment she is preoccupied with organic shapes. She works in cast porcelain which she glazes and decorates in bright pastel colors. During her training at Danmarks Designskole she designed a classic set of children’s dinnerware made from cast porcelain, decorated by hand, and fired at 1280oC. New elements have since been added to the set. Hybel sells her work in Scandinavia, Germany, Holland, England, France, Italy and Spain as well as in the United States and Japan. The Norwegian Crown Prince and his wife are among her clients, as is the Danish Ministry of Culture. Hybel runs a joint workshop and shop – Keramikbutikken – with a colleague, at Blågårds Plads in Copenhagen. In Denmark she has been represented i.a. at Aalborg Kunstpavillion and at the Museum of International Ceramic Art in Middelfart. In 2001 she participated in the grandly conceived exhibition “Dansk Form – Design von Nachbarn,” in Hamburg. | By same artist: |
