Food Chain and Hunger

These drawings are intuitive and not based on preliminary drafts. Hanne Louise Nielsen plays with form on paper, and the picture develops during this playful exploration. Food Chain and Hunger are images of potential human states, and Hanne Louise Nielsen played with various meanings of the Danish verb ’indtage’, for example in the sense of assuming a position, consuming food or receiving love. In this way, she aims for multi-layered communication.

Hanne Louise Nielsen

b. 1975, Danish illustrator and designer

Hanne Louise Nielsen graduated from the Kolding School of Design, the line of Visual Communication in 2004. Among other events, she has made decorations of skateboards to raise money for children in Afghanistan in connection with the event Skateistan in 2009, exhibited in the RELÆ restaurant in 2011, and taken part in the Biennale for Crafts and Design in cooperation with industrial designer Line Dyrholm in 2007. Hanne Louise Nielsen’s work is hand-drawn figurative graphic design with communicative messages. Hanne Louise Nielsen often bases her work on an intuitive playful exploration of form and graphic drawings on wood or paper. The end-result may be in the style of a collage, but sometimes the expression remains in the style of the original drawing, perhaps with computer-manipulated colours. In addition, Hanne Louise Nielsen also strives to let the underlying idea control the expression, and in these cases the result may be unrelated to drawing. Hanne Louise Nielsen is inspired by interpersonal relations or particular themes that capture her fascination. Other sources of inspiration are unpretentious expressions like street art and folk art.
