Petterson graduated from Danmarks Designskole in 1998. Born and raised in Småland, Sweden, nature is a prevailing source of inspiration in Pettersson’s artistic work. She finds a magic in working with glass. When the glass is hot, it has a life of its own and she often lets its natural movement play a part in deciding the final shape of a piece. She often works using a technique called fusing, which she has also used for her MOSS ICE tea-light holders. Here she deliberately seeks to exploit some of the optic effects and reflections that arise when light is refracted through the glass. Lately, she has also worked with glass as a surface for ornamentation, like for instance in her Skull Glass. Lotta Pettersson has received several awards, including a grant from the Jubilee Foundation of the Danish National Bank. Her work is represented at several glass museums in Denmark and abroad including Glasmuseet Ebeltoft, Vetri International Glass, Seattle and Nasu-Shiobara City, Japan.
