Cutting Edge Bowl

Cutting Edge is a sculptural stoneware bowl created using a cutting thread. The curvature of the bowl is created by a combination of the rotation of the wheel and the movement of the hand holding the thread. In doing so Lea-Mi Engholm challenges the conventional perception of a bowl as consisting of clearly defined inner space and outer wall. The Cutting Edge Bowl’s measurements are H: 9 cm, D: 21 cm. Cutting Edge is available in white, white/pink and white/yellow.

Lea-Mi Engholm

b. 1977, Danish Ceramic Designer

Engholm graduated from Designskolen Kolding in 2006. Clay is her preferred material and she works with stoneware, earthenware and porcelain. She is particularly preoccupied with the combination of form and function, without necessarily making function her central theme. Her work often originates in a particular technique. Similarly, she obtains inspiration from the contrast and tension arising between stringent geometry and soft organic shapes. Using form and ornamentation she tries to distance her expression from mass-production. Lea-Mi Engholm’s works have been exhibited at numerous places including Galleri Nørby, the Museum of International Ceramic Art at Grimmerhus. In 2007 they will be featured at the Art and Design Biennial in Kolding.
