Oh Norway and No Ice

Oh Norway and No Ice are two hand-printed cushions made from Belgian linen. Friis deliberately works her textiles using patterns and colours that do not necessarily represent anything specific, but which are intended to appeal to individual viewers, provoking memories of recognizable objects, places and atmospheres. Her Oh Norway and No Ice cushions both feature highly optical patterns, which at the same time encompass recognizable, classic elements. The cushions feature patterns in black-and-white and measure 40 x 60 cm.

Lisbet Friis

b. 1957, Danish Textile Designer

Lisbet Friis completed her education at Skolen for Brugskunst in Copenhagen in 1985. Friis works with textiles and colours in public and private spaces. She has accepted commissions for a number of international fashion companies including Epice, In-Wear and Kenzo. Friis has run a business in her own name since 1996 designing and producing limited, exclusive series of interior textiles. She designs for clients like design company Kvadrat besides creating carpets in cooperation with Swedish Kasthall. Lisbet Friis’ works are also represented at the Museum of Art and Design in Copenhagen. Colours, patterns, and the way they are expressed in the fabric are the turning point of Friis’ production. The challenge for her lies in finding and combining the right colours with the right materials.
