ClaydiesClaydies. Est. 2000
Claydies was established in 2000 and consists of ceramists Karen Kjældgård-Larsen (b. 1974) and Tine Broksø (b. 1971), both graduates of the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Design from 2000. Karen Kjældgård-Larsen and Tine Broksø have worked together under the name Claydies since their graduation, and they describe themselves as “one ceramist with two heads and four arms”. Among other venues, Claydies has exhibited their ceramics at Trapholt (DK) in 2011 under the title Claydies Room, at Liljevalchs konsthall (S) in 2007 with the exhibition True Feelings and at Galleri Nørby (DK) in 2001 with the exhibition Claydies and Gentlemen. Claydies have received working grants from the Danish Arts Foundation, grants from Danmarks Nationalbank’s Anniversary Foundation of 1968 and support for projects and exhibitions from Danish Crafts on several occasions. Karen Kjældgård-Larsen designed Royal Copenhagen’s Blue Fluted Mega, which has been purchased by Designmuseum Danmark. Claydies was also included in a vision project initiated by the Danish Arts Foundation in 2004 which focused on dining experiences on the train. Claydies’ work always springs from an idea or a concept, which is allowed to dictate the design. Fiction, humour and provocation are frequent elements in their work, and Claydies seek to create ceramic designs that are challenging and experimental. They find their inspiration in old ceramics and ceramic traditions but also in other materials and domains, for example in everyday life and the way we handle it. |
True FeelingsTrue Feelings is a hand-pinched porcelain set. Each individual object is pinched crudely, so that the finger prints in the clay stand out clearly and thus turn into decoration. True Feelings springs from an experimental project where Claydies made utilitarian objects within a framework of dogma rules, including a rule requiring them to work blindfolded. The result of this experiment was later elaborated and refined and turned into True Feelings, “where the true finger feelings are evident in the clay”.
