Camilla Prasch b. 1967, Danish Designer
Camilla Prasch graduated from Danmarks Designskole, Spatial Design, in 1997. Her exhibitions include the solo exhibition ”Objekter til pause” (Objects for pause) at the Danish Museum of Art & Design in 2004 and “Schmuck” (Jewellery) in Munich, Germany in 2004 and 2007. In addition, Camilla has been included in several of the previous Crafts Collections: Crafts Collection 08, 09, 10 and CC+ for MoMA. Camilla Prasch’ main field is conceptual art. Her choice of materials is subordinate to the pursuit of the overriding concept. A consistent feature in her work is the way it addresses the body. The jewellery takes shape and comes to life when it is worn on the mobile, living body. She often creates ready-mades and conceptual objects for the body based on recognisable everyday objects. |
AbgestempeltAbgestempelt is a sort of contemporary interpretation of a signet ring. It is made of standard wooden stamps which have a hole drilled into the ball of the wooden shaft, so that it can be worn as a finger ring. With this ready-made signet ring, Camilla Prasch comments on today’s individualism and excessive branding. The ring lets the user carry her own brand on the body, always at hand and ready for use. Camilla Prasch was fascinated by the Japanese custom of personals stamp with a kanji symbol; these stamps are used as a binding seal on official documents instead of the written signature that is used in the West. “Abgestempelt”, which is German for stigmatised or pigeon-holed, thematises modern man’s need to add a personal comment to everything. | By same artist: |
