Merete Erbou Laurent b. 1949, Danish Textile Designer
Merete Erbou Laurent graduated from The Jutland Art Academy, textile studies, in 1970 and then studied at the Aarhus School of Architecture, spatial design studies, graduating in 2004. Among her many exhibitions are “Djurslandskaber” at Grenå Kunstforening in 2006, FORMAT in Rundetårn (The Round Tower) in 2001, and “KIC”, Kunsthåndværk i centrum, in 2006-2007. Merete Erbou Laurent often uses paper yarn in her works and incorporates colours in a way that makes the resulting works appear as design objects as well as works of art. In 2005, she was awarded the travel grant from Ole Haslund’s Foundation, and in 2007 the working grant from The Danish Arts Foundation. |

Both Sides, Doublesided RunnerBoth Sides, Doublesided Runner is a hand-woven runner made in Finnish paper yarn. It was mainly conceived as a rug but can also be hung on the wall for decoration or as a way of improving the acoustics in a room. As indicated by the name, Merete Erbou Laurent emphasises the dual nature of the runner. The runners are durable enough to be used as rugs, but they are also crisp and artistic in their colour expression. They are woven using a technique that creates two very different sides: One is monochrome, while the other features a striped pattern with an optical effect that changes, depending on the location of the beholder. The inspiration for the runners came from the close rows of fledgling plants in the cultivated landscape; this impression is framed by the optical colour sequences that run across the width of the runners. The Both Sides runner is 62 x 250 cm and comes in three colour schemes: pink, green and orange. | By same artist: |
