ExtraOrdinaryCraft

Release

24 innovative and experimenting craftspeople artfully reinterpret known forms and archetypes through radical concepts and with great vitality. Without compromising on quality and knowledge, craft and design with its multifaceted, handheld approach unfolds new aspects of the design concept.

Beyond the elementary, governed by learning and dogma, Craft adds something EXTRA to the ordinary, thus becoming – ExtraOrdinary. In a dialogue that is both conscious and self-conscious, the new collection stirs emotions and dismantles our prejudices while possessing that extra-ordinary quality that keeps us thinking.

With CC+ for MoMA, Danish Crafts increased its presence in the USA. The collection was a result of a close collaboration between Danish Crafts and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Nineteen of the most talented, young Danish designer-makers were selected and chosen to participate in the collection, which was on display in MoMA’s two design stores from 22nd February 2006 and two months onward.

Two product managers from MoMA retail visited Denmark and met with a number of craftspeople at their workshops. Ahead of the visit an extensive presentation of products from previous Crafts Collections had taken place. This resulted in the composition of the collection CC+ for MoMA which consisted of nineteen designer-makers.
